In today’s increasingly globalized world, major engineering colleges have found they need to go to extra mile by introducing their students to hobby which brings people, electronics and communication together.
On 15 June 2015 Team MARI, Mumbai Amateur Radio Institute, got the invitation letter from SIES Graduate School of Technology, Nerul to conduct seminar on Amateur/ HAM Radio. The seminar was schedule on 18th July 2015.
Special thanks to OM VU3TTL Parth Sane for taking the initiative and making this event a grand success. He is the student of same college and Amateur radio operator holding the call sign VU3TTL. He has taken extra initiative to arrange this seminar for his college.
Team MARI arrived at the SIES GST college premises around 10:00 hrs. Couple of HAMs from Pune Hams & Amateur Radio Society (PHARS) and Hams from Panvel had also joined this seminar along with some local HAMs from nearest vicinity.
HOD Dr. Atul Kemkar inaugurated this event with a welcome speech and requested Team MARI to start the seminar.
VU2TQC/ Jayant Singh started the presentation with introduction of Team MARI and a brief introduction of every ham who was present there. During introductory part he also explained that, how people from diverse professional backgrounds are able to enjoy the HAM/ Amateur Radio as a hobby.
Later he touched upon some basics on radio communication like waves and propagation etc. and then handed over the mike to OM VU2IVV/ Jayesh Banatwala for Rules and Regulation,Licensing process, Morse Code and Home brewing. VU2LOC/ Shailesh Deshmukh presented details about Importance of Call signs and its formation.
OM VU2ISM/ Dr. Saurabh Mehata from Vidyalankar College and Team MARI provided some insights on setting up the club station.
By 13:00 hrs we had requested for the break but enthusiasm among students was so high they had cancelled the break and requested for continuation.
The seminar continued with various topics like satellite communication and various competitions in HAM radio like Fox Hunt, DXCC etc.
OM VU2ASH/ Ashok Joshi had given a brief on home-brewing. VU2ASH/ Ashok Joshi is avid home-brewer and Elmer. He is one of the old timers who is lucky to work with OM VU2ST/ Saad Ali (Silent Key).
