Last year around 50 engineering students participated in antenna building workshop held by Mumbai Amateur Radio Institute (MARI) at Don Bosco Institute of Technology (DBIT), Mumbai. All students and college staff actively participated in this event, and we have got a tremendous response from all students.

This year DBIT, Mumbai and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Mumbai Section decided to conduct a similar antenna building workshop along with Fox Hunt (Hidden Transmitter Hunting) with the assistance of Team MARI.

Team MARI accepted this invitation and scheduled a two days' plan,

Day 1 – Antenna Building Workshop,

Day 2 – Fox Hunt (Hidden Transmitter Hunting),

While planning this event Team MARI received club callsign (VU2BPA) from Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC), Wing of the Ministry of Communications.

We have decided to inaugurate the club callsign (VU2BPA) from youngest member of Team MARI Shri Padma Bhushan Dr. V P Singhania, (honorary) Air Commodore IAF.

Day-1

The event started with an introduction of Team MARI and very inspiring video MI70K- MISSION I AM POSSIBLE 70K of Dr. V P Singhania. He broke the world record at the age of 67 by flying 70,000 Feet up in the air close to the edge of space where no man has ever gone before; where there are almost no oxygen and the body can literally explode.

Now at the age of 77, Dr. V P Singhania is pursuing Amateur Radio hobby, hats off for his dedication.

On this particular event, Team MARI also felicitate the honorary life membership of Mumbai Amateur Radio Institute (MARI) to Dr. V P Singhania and OM VU2ASH/ Ashok Joshi.

OM VU2ASH/ Ashok Joshi is an avid homebrewer and chief mentor to Team MARI.

Antenna building workshop started with an introduction of Amateur Radio/ HAM Radio and Antenna physics and fundamentals.

Total 57 students participated in antenna building workshop including college faculty members. 19 teams homebrewed their Tape Yagi antenna and learned how to tuned this antenna using Antenna Analyzer.

Day-2

Day-2 started with a brief introduction of Fox Hunt (Hidden Transmitter Hunting) to all participant.

Including finals total 4 Fox Hunt was conducted. The 3rd Fox Hunt was challenging one; students took around 1:30 hrs to locate the transmitter. All together it was an excellent experimental learning, fun activity.

All engineering students learned the antenna physic and radio wave propagation in a particle way. Special thanks to DBIT college staffs & Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Mumbai Section for arranging such experimental events for engineering student,
